Jean (dit Marcel) Auger est né à Availles-Limouzine (Vienne) le 6 novembre 1909 et est décédé à Confolens le 19 mai 1993. Il fit partie, de 1927 à 1932, du groupe "les Veilleurs de Saint Germain" du peintre et folkloriste Jean Teilliet. Au début des années 60, M. Auger avait rejoint, pour un temps, "Lo Gerbo Baudo" de Confolens. Enregistré en présence de danseurs, M. Auger interprète là bourrées, marches, scottischs et quadrilles, des airs qu'il jouait avec [Georges] Charpentier mais dont il "ne se rappelle plus bien... y a tellement longtemps que je ne les ai pas joués !" Le nom des figures des quadrilles pouvait varier ; ces quadrilles étaient souvent faits de morceaux déjà connus (marches, polkas) que l'on arrangeait au gré des musiciens ; et en sens inverse des airs détachés d'un quadrille se jouaient souvent en marche.
